Simulation-Based Energy Resilience Planning (Community Level)

A modeling study for simulation-based energy resilience planning can be done to investigate when people are willing to adopt various energy saving behaviors or technologies and temporal and spatial patterns of their diffusion.

First, potential motivators can be identified by classifying various factors that may motivate people to adopt different specific energy saving behaviors or technologies. Relevant data should be also collected accordingly. Second, behavioral rules can be determined based on the potential motivators identified. Third, the diffusion of energy saving behaviors or technologies can be modeled and simulated using agent-based modeling (ABM). One of the potential energy-saving technologies that can be considered would be rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.
