Internet of Things (IoT)-Based Real-Time Automatic Controlling (Building Level)

An experimental study for IoT-based real-time automatic controlling can be done to investigate relationships among occupant responses/behaviors, building energy consumption, and indoor environment quality.

First, data on occupant responses (e.g., psychological, physiological, and cognitive responses, thermal comfort and satisfaction, occupancy, etc.), building energy consumption, and indoor environment quality can be collected using various IoT sensors and questionnaire survey. Second, the data collected can be analyzed and interpreted using various methods, such as statistical analysis and data mining techniques, to find out energy use patterns, energy saving potentials, and satisfactory indoor environment quality according to the occupant responses and behaviors. Third, automatic control strategy can be established using various methods, such as data mining and machine learning techniques, to determine the optimal control strategy for buildings which can satisfy both the energy efficiency and human comfort.
