Immersive Virtual Reality (IVR)-Based Pre-occupancy Evaluation (Room Level)
An experimental study for IVR-based pre-occupancy evaluation can be done to investigate various occupant responses, such as psychological, physiological, and cognitive responses to various built environments with different design variables.
First, a series of IVR experiments can be designed using a randomized crossover study design, which is a type of repeated measures design where a subject is randomly assigned to different experimental exposures, to analyze the within-group effects. Second, different 3D and IVR modeling software programs can be used to create various virtual built environments with different design variables. Third, IVR experiments can be performed to measure various occupant responses to different design alternatives in the virtual built environments through questionnaire surveys, sensors, or cognitive tests.
